The Death of Curt Connors

Kaine returns to the homeless camp in the South Bronx that he calls home and finds that Ana Kravinoff has slaughtered all the homeless people who live there. His ability to see the future tells him that Ana’s future is one that reeks of death. For the first time in his life, Kaine finds himself freeing from a fight. Ana refuses to let him go and uses a blow dart to drug him. Soon, the young Kravinoff woman is on him and he manages to burn her face with his Mark of Kaine and break free. Before Ana can resume her hunt her older brother, Aloysha arrives and tells her that it is not time to start the hunt. He then informs her that the Lizard has hatched and that the creature needs to be fed.

Meanwhile, at the Blue Hills Restaurant in Greenwich Village waiting for Carlie Cooper to show up for their date. When she is incredibly late he finally realizes what it’s like being stood up. After he leaves the restaurant, Carlie calls him to apologize, telling him that she had been called to a crime scene at Phelcorp Industries that involved multiple murders and Curt Connors.

Moments later, Spider-Man arrives at ths scene as the CSI team is still trying to ID the remains. Carlie tells the web-slinger that there were six victims and they aren’t sure if Curt Connors caused it, or was one of the victims. The only survivor was Connor’s assistant, Marissa, however she is in no state to answer questions after the horrors she witnessed. Spider-Man fears that Curt has become the Lizard again despite assurances he was cured. Carlie mentions how Curt was recently trying to get custody of his son back, prompting Spider-Man to have her get the address of Billy’s foster home because the boy is not safe if the Lizard is back.

The Lizard is found outside of a home in Greenwood Heights, Brooklyn. What remains with Curt Connor’s mind tries to stop the Lizard and he is relieved when Spider-Man arrives to stop him. Spider-Man talks to Curt Connor’s telling Curt to help him fight the Lizard. The creature resists and soon attacks Spider-Man, who is not prepared for the ferocity the Lizard is now capable of. To make matter worse, he has a number of smaller lizards under his thrall begin swarming him. When they go crashing through the front door, Spider-Man is horrified by all the blood and thinks the Lizard had already gone inside. However, the Lizard can sense that Billy is not present and flees. Spider-Man rushes to the aid of a woman who had been savagely attacked. She tells the web-slinger that she was attacked by a young girl who then kidnapped Billy.

Ana Kravinoff is the kidnapper and as she expected, the Lizard has followed Billy Connor’s scent and she leaves the boy alone with the creature. Face to face with the Lizard, Billy figures that the creature has come to kill him as he always knew it would. Despite Curt Connor’s attempts to stop his alter ego, the Lizard kills Billy. Horrified by the sight of his other self taking the life of his only son, Curt Connor’s mind finally snaps, leaving the Lizard in full control. Watching the horror from the rooftops, Ana and Aloysha Kravinoff pronounce Curt Connors dead. Aloysha insists that they have to get going before Spider-Man arrives, but Ana wants to stay and watch a little longer and take pride in her work.
