Captain America #108

The Snares of the Trapster

Credits

Captain America’s training session is interrupted by the arrival of a SHIELD agent who has come with his next mission. Steve is annoyed because he feels like he doesn’t have a life outside of carrying out missions for the spy agency as Captain America. However, he changes his tune when the SHIELD agent tells him that Sharon Carter has been kidnapped while trying to deliver information on Project Fireball. Steve is then given a tracking device that will help him find Sharon.

Meanwhile, Sharon Carter wakes up and finds herself glued to a table by her captor, the Trapster. When he tries to question her about Project Fireball, she refuses to talk. However, the Trapster boasts that his various traps will force her to talk.

Meanwhile, Captain America has tracked Sharon’s signal to a section of the city that is undergoing urban renewal. Trying to enter the hideout’s front door, Captain America narrowly avoids getting caught in a paste spraying trap. This tips Cap off to the fact that he is facing the Trapster. Leaping down a flight of stairs, he grabs onto a pipe suspended over the floor only to discover that it is covered in paste. Still, Captain America is far from harmless like this. When the Trapster tries to attack him, Captain America pulls the bar loose so he can defend himself. Unable to fight off his foe, the Trapster uses his paste gun to collapse the ceiling. As Cap tries hacking his way through the debris, his hands come loose from the paste.

That’s when he falls through a trap door and lands on a massive turntable covered in paste. The Trapster then begins trying to spin him to death. However, his control panel suddenly explodes and the Trapster rushes off to make sure that Captain America has not gotten loose. However, Cap has gotten loose again and a new battle starts up. This time, the Trapster traps Cap in a cylinder that fills up with paste up to his neck. With Captain America trapped, the Trapster reveals that he is being employed by the Red Skull before spraying Cap with a solution that should tighten the paste until he suffocates. Instead, it causes the paste to crumble and this time, Steve defeats his foe by knocking the Trapster into his own paste.

Captain America then races to find Sharon Carter and discovers that the “woman” that the Trapster had prisoner was actually a Life Model Decoy. That’s when the real Sharon Carter comes out of the shadows and reveals that she was the one who weakened the Trapster’s paste traps with solvent. Glad that she is safe, but the Trapster managed to escape in the confusion. Cap figures that this is a problem for tomorrow and kisses Sharon.
