Cat-Man Comics #8

Volton

A radio news bulletin warns the city that enemy planes have been spotted off the shores of Empire City. People are told to get off the streets and the town goes into a blackout. However, while most people have taken cover one man stands atop the city rooftops — the costumed hero named Volton.

Meanwhile, some men take advantage of the situation to knock out the guard at a local bank so they can break into the vault. When the robbers use a jackhammer to try and get into the vault, Volton can sense the use of electricity and travels along the electrical currents and emerges from the jackhammer. He quickly incapacitates the crooks. He then leaps into the phone and pops out of the received of the police station and tells the chief of police about the robbery he stopped before disappearing.

Soon the crisis if over and citizens are told they can turn their lights back on. However, when the power doesn’t work, Volton suspects that there must be something wrong at the power plant and rides the powerlines to get to it. At the power plant, the leader of the mob and some of his goons are making sure the power remains off until the bank job is finished, unaware that it had already been foiled. That’s when Volton smashes out of a lightbulb to ambush them.

Using his electrical powers, Volton melts the mobster’s weapons and knocks them out before turning the power back on. While he is busy cranking the generator, Volton is caught off guard when one of the crooks tosses a crowbar at him. The metal bar ends up grounding the electrical currents in Volton’s body, weakening him. However, before the mobsters can take advantage of this, a storm cloud passes overhead. Miraculously a bolt of lightning strikes Volton’s body recharging his body and killing all the mobsters. Volton then rides the lightning all the way back to the city where he considers the days work to be done.
