Champ Comics #12
Duke O’Dawd the Human Meteor
While on the job, Duke O’Dawd and Toby watch as some mobsters mow a man down in the street. Rushing to the wounded man’s aid, the pair learn that he was an FBI agent named Mercer and that his killers were a gang of sabetours. Duke and Toby then rush the man to the hospital where he gets immediate medical attention. As the pair leave the hospital they are unaware that they are being followed by the mobsters who tried to kill Mercer. The killers force Duke off the road and try to take them hostage. However, Toby creates a distraction that allows Duke to overpower their captors. Questioning one of the crooks, Duke learns that they were sent to try and kill Mercer under orders of Pete Rosky, a local politician.
With the crooks turned over to the authorities, Duke decides to look into Pete Rosky and changes into the Human Meteor. As the hero flies to the Rosky estate, a pair of crooks blow up a nearby bridge with explosives. Unaware of this, the Human Meteor arrives at Rosky’s home just in time to overhear Pete getting news that the bridge has been destroyer as per his orders. As it turns out, he plotted this act of sabotage so his own construction company could win the contract to build a new bridge. That’s when the Human Meteor comes smashing in through the window. However, Rosky calls his men who come rushing in with guns. The Human Meteor pretends to surrender just long enough to hear what Pete’s plans are. That’s when the hero lashes out, but while he is busy dealing with Pete’s guards, Rosky manages to flee the scene.
Outside, he finds Toby posing as a newspaper boy being hassled by some of Rosky’s men and saves the boy. He then rushes to the site of the bridge and begins helping authorities repair the damage. Attempting to stop this from happening, Rosky’s men attack and Pete soon arrives in a plane to drop cement blocks on the hero, but none of this works to stop the Human Meteor. Knocking out the mobsters, the Human Meteor flies into the air and nabs Pete from his plane and then, dangling the crooked politician over the edge of the ruined bridge, forces Rosky to confess his crimes and surrender to the police.
