Duke O’Dawd the Human Meteor

This story is continued from last issue…

In the city of Bayakura, Duke D’awd is celebrated as the “great deliverer” of the city after he helped liberate it from tyranny. After being given a new costume to wear in his Human Meteor guise, Wah Le gives Duke a device called a Televox which will allow the two to maintain contact with each other when Duke return to America. That’s when Wah Le’s own Televox machine alerts them of a man named Nad Neurod a gang lord who operates out of the slums of New York City. Neurod has gathered an army of criminals in order to loot the entire city. Before Nad can detail how he plans on shutting down the entire city an electrical storm in the nearby mountains causes Wah Le’s Televox to short out. Without a moment to lose, the Human Meteor takes off, able to use his newfound power to fly back to the United States.

Meanwhile, in New York, Nad Neurod’s minions are already starting their crime spree by hijacking a number of trucks and then taking over and shutting down the powerplant. By this time, Wah Le has repaired his Televox and has learned this and is able to warn the Human Meteor who is still en route to the city. With New York plunged in darkness, the criminal gang begins committing their crime spree, robbing everyone from large banks to purse snatching. It’s when one of these crooks tries to rob an elderly woman that the Human Meteor arrives and stops him. When stopping the bank robbery, the Meteor is able to stun most of the crooks with his Yargun, but one of the manages to sneak up behind him and strike the Meteor with the wood stock of his gun. As wood is his only weakness, the Human Meteor is knocked out and then tied to a lamp post. As the gang of crooks prepare to crash their car into the post, Wah Le manages to call to Duke and revive him. Quickly, the hero activates the contra-magnetic force of his belt which creates a force field that protects him from the speeding truck.

Realizing that the only way to stop this crime spree is to get the power back on, the Human Meteor flies to the power station. Along the way he has to stop a number of robberies but he eventually arrives on the scene. There Nad Neurod and his men try to stop the hero from turning the power back on but the Human Meteor is far too powerful. He mercilessly squashes the crooks under an electrical dynamo, but Nad tries to flee up a tower. Unfortunately for him, the Human Meteor is powerful enough to shake Nad loose causing him to fall to his death. With the danger over, Duke restores power to the city and as he flies over the city, Duke decides to get a job as an airplane mechanic while he waits for Wah Le contacts him again.
