Combat Kelly #1

Trapped in Korea!

D Company has camped out on the Korean front, and news has come out that Hank "Combat" Kelly is going to be transferred to their unit. With this news some of the troops talk to the camp cook Cookie Novak and ask him about Combat Kelly, as he had worked with him earlier in the war. He tells the men that Kelly loves three things in life: combat, food and women. He then tells them the story about how Hank Kelly earned the nickname "Combat"...

He explains at Kelly was a Sargent and one of the top picks for the first wave of soldiers when they landed in Pusan. However, he already earning the ire of his commanding officer for trying to order special food on his first day. When going for food, Kelly confided to Cookie that the major chewing him out was all the Communists fault.

A few days later, Sgt. Kelly was with a group of soldiers who were pinned down under enemy fire. When one of the men was shot dead, Kelly had enough and charged off into the enemy fire alone with guns blazing. Kelly manages to get all the way to the enemy camp inside a cave. But he finds that he is out of bullets. Undaunted, Kelly then charged into the cave and fought the Chinese soldiers with his bare hands, beating them all. When Cookie and the others got to the cave they found Kelly alive and well, and the exhausted Kelly then passed out. Back at camp, the major tells Kelly that he is being awarded a medal of bravery for his actions, however for disobeying orders the major has Kelly stripped of his rank and is demoted to private.

Finishing his story, Cookie spots that Combat Kelly is heading into camp. His first order of business after his arrival is to get a plate of food from Cookie and chow down.

Combat Kelly

Combat Kelly, with thoughts of a Korean singer named Seoul City Sue in his mind beats a bunch of Chinese troops single handed. In the aftermath of the battle, Cookie tells him it's time to eat, much to Kelly's delight.

When they return to camp they are chewed out by the Major who is upset that they were put on patrol and did not get permission to go to Seoul. Even though they wiped out a troop of enemy soldiers the angry Major puts them in the stockade. While in lock up, they hear a radio broadcast of Seoul City Sue telling the American troops to surrender to the Chinese, much to Combat's shock. Soon the major calls them back and tells them that they are going on another patrol to stop Seoul City Sue's radio broadcasts.

Combat Kelly and Cookie begin patrolling from the radio broadcast's origins, but along the way they are attacked by Chinese forces. The pair slay most of them, but before they can continue further they are knocked out from behind and taken prisoner. When the two G.I.'s come to they find that they have been taken to the very location where Seoul City Sue is being forced to make her broadcasts. Sue is happy to see Kelly alive and well, even if he is a prisoner of her captors as well. The leader of the enemy troops informs Combat Kelly that he is going to go on the air and tell his troops to case fighting or they will kill Cookie and Sue.

At first, Kelly does as he is told but also broadcasts their position. Hearing Kelly's "defection" the Major angrily gets an attack force to the location of the radio broadcasts and the attack quickly decimates the Chinese forces. When the Major bursts into the house, he finds that Cookie and Combat have tied up the enemy leader and Kelly is being romanced by Seoul City Sue.
