Gunsmoke Western #39
No Place to Turn!
Kid Colt has captured the outlaw known as Luke Fraser and is bringing him back to the town of Longhorn when he is suddenly ambushed by Frisco Gang, who demands that Kid Colt hand over Fraser. While trying to figure out what to do next, Kid Colt thinks back to how he found himself in this situation…
Kid Colt was riding into Jezebel where he is was approached by a posse led by the Sheriff. He is told that the town is under curfew while they have Luke Fraser prisoner. The sheriff explains that the Frisco Gang is attempting to free their leader so they have the entire town on lockdown. That’s when another group of sentries arrives to tell the sheriff that the Frisco Gang is attacking the other side of town with a group of renegade Native Americans. While the sheriff and his men go to fend off this attack, Kid Colt figures this is a distraction and decides to go and check on the town jail.
In town, Kid Colt meets with the Marshall and they both find the Frisco Gang trying to set an explosive at the back of the jail. Although they manage to drive off the Frisco Gang, the Marshall is injured in the gunfight. With nobody else able to leave town, Kid Colt is asked to transport Fraser to the town of Longhorn. As he leads his prisoner out of town, Kid Colt asks why the Frisco Gang want Fraser so badly and learns that the leader of the gang wants to kill Luke. When they set up camp for the night, Luke asks for a piece of paper so he can write a letter to his mother, asking Kid Colt to deliver it for him after he is dropped off in Longhorn. The next day, Kid Colt takes down the camp and tells Fraser to get ready, warning him that they are going to be making the most difficult stretch of their trip. Along the way, Kid Colt tells Luke that a man has to live with his conscience, pointing out that only one of them might make it to Longhorn alive. It’s while on this final stretch that they are ambushed by the Frisco Gang…
… Forced to untie Luke Fraser, Kid Colt reminds Luke what he said earlier about a man’s conscience and that he’ll have to deal with his in twenty seconds. When Frisco asks Luke if he’ll talk about what happened down in Yuma. Fraser says the only thing he’ll let talk for him is his guns and begin opening fire on the gangs. Joined by Kid Colt, the pair disarms the outlaws and soon have them all tied up. Kid Colt and Luke then head into Longhorn with the Frisco Gang as their prisoners.
