Gunsmoke Western Primer

Series Overview

Gunsmoke Western was yet another western anthology series pumped out by Atlas Comics. This series specifically replaced Western Tales of the Black Rider, taking up the former series numbering starting with issue #33. For two issues the title was shared by Kid Colt and Buckskin Billy. Issue #35 saw Billy get replaced by Wyatt Earp. Issue #36 saw a single Black Rider story. Kid Colt then remained the only recurring character in the title until issue #44 when Wyatt Earp returned as a backup feature until issue #58. Two-Gun Kid joined the title in issue #57 until issue #63. Kid Colt then held the series as the only recurring feature until the title ended its run in issue #77.

Index Scope

This index omits all one-off western stories (as usual). It also only covers issues #33-66, issues #67 onward were published after the change from Atlas to Marvel Comics in November 1961. Those issues will (eventually) be covered in the Marvel Age section of this index.
