Kid Colt Outlaw #96

Beware of Montana Joe!

Kid Colt is riding the trail when he comes across a stagecoach robbery being committed by Montana Joe gang. After they recover the cash box from the coach, they order the drivers to get walking. That’s when Kid Colt arrives and orders the outlaws to stop. Kid Colt starts to disarm the crooks by shooting the guns out of their hands until one of the outlaws grabs one of the coach drivers and holds him hostage. The coach driver kicks Montana to get free allowing Kid Colt to shoot the gun out of his hands. With the outlaws all rounded up, Kid Colt helps ride the coach back into Tombstone. Kid Colt is instantly recognized but the sheriff decides to give him a pass since he stopped the stagecoach robbery. However, he warns Kid Colt to be careful since these men are part of the Montana Joe gang and their leader won’t take kindly to his interference and suggests he stick around town for a while just to be safe. Kid Colt hangs around town for a few days, but the locals don’t like it knowing there will be trouble soon enough.

Meanwhile, Montana Joe has heard about how Kid Colt interfered with the coach robbery and plans revenge. Disguising himself as Kid Colt Montana and his gang rob another stage. When word reaches town, the sheriff falls for Montana’s trick and goes to arrest Kid Colt and toss him in jail. When he tries to convince them of his innocence, neither the sheriff nor his deputy believes him. Elsewhere, Montana Joe gloats over how easy their latest heist was and decides to keep his Kid Colt disguise in case it ever becomes useful again.

Later, when the deputy brings Kid Colt his meal, he grabs manages to knock the deputy out and steal his keys. He then threatens the two captured members of the gang and learns where Montana Joe’s hideout is located. When the sheriff returns to his office, the two outlaws tell him how Kid Colt escape and where he is going. When the sheriff and his deputy race off to catch him, they are unaware that Kid Colt hasn’t actually left the area. Knowing that the outlaws lied to him, Kid Colt lets them out of their cells and forces them to escort him to Montana Joe’s hideout.

Taken to Montana Joe’s hideout, Kid Colt picks off the gang members one by one and then ambushes Montana Joe, beating him into submission. When the law finally arrives they find Montana Joe and his men tied up to the trees around their hideout. Seeing Montana Joe wearing the exact same outfit as Kid Colt they realize that Joe had framed the Kid for the coach robbery.

Tragedy on the Trail!

A man named George and his sister wait on the side of the trail for a passerby. When Kid Colt rides by, the sister goes out to tell him she needs help with her horse. However, this is all a trap so George can ambush her and steal his horse. However, George’s sister begins to have second thoughts and this begins trying his patience. Eventually, George decides to leave his sister behind. She checks on Kid Colt who recovers from the attack and seeing George getting away with his horse whistles prompting Steel to turn around and return to his master.

Furious, George tries attacking Kid Colt again and the pair come to blows. Their fight takes them dangerously close to the edge of a cliff. One of Kid Colt’s blows causes George to lose his balance. Tragically, when Kid Colt tries to grab George his shirt rips and he falls to his death. Although her brother is now dead, George’s sister believes it was for the best. After Kid Colt drops her off in a nearby town she starts a new life when she becomes the local schoolteacher.
