Marvel Two-In-One #26

The Fixer and Mentallo Are Back

Credits

Agreeing to meet with Nick Fury, the Thing is taken aboard the SHIELD Helicarrier where he is told that the villains Fixer and Mentallo are seeking him out, although SHIELD has no idea why. However, to prevent anything the two crooks might be up to, they have taken Thing aboard the helicarrier as a safety precaution.

However, this does not stop Mentallo and Fixer. They storm the SHIELD helicarrier and easily incapacitate all the SHIELD agents that offer resistance and capture the Thing. Taking him to the Baxter Building, the two hope to utilize Dr. Doom's time machine for their own ends. Despite interference from the arriving Nick Fury, they fail to stop Mentallo and the Fixer from accomplishing their goal: Bringing Deathlok to the present.

Continuity Notes

  • The man working with Nick Fury is not exactly Timothy Dugan but a Life Model Decoy of Dugan. As revealed in Original Sins #5, Dugan nearly died years earlier in a battle against Hydra. Fury covered it up by replacing Dugan with a life-like LMD. The fact that Dugan's mind was operating these units was revealed in New Avengers (vol. 4) #17.

  • Fury mentions his agencies previous encounter with Mentallo and the Fixer which happened in Strange Tales #141-143.

  • Nick Fury refers to the Time-Platform in the Baxter Building as belonging to Doctor Doom. In Fantastic Four #19 Mister Fantastic claimed to have confiscated the Time Machine from Doom after their encounter with him in Fantastic Four #4. However, Fantastic Four Annual #11 clarifies this stating that, while Richards originally confiscated the Time-Platform, he was forced to return it to prevent a diplomatic incident, but still managed to duplicate the device before returning it.

  • Deathlok was plucked from time following the events of Marvel Spotlight #33
