Rawhide Kid Primer

Series Overview

The Rawhide Kid is another Atlas era comic book that introduced one of Marvel’s most iconic western heroes — except for the first sixteen issues. These stories featured someone who wasn’t Jonathan Clay. This Rawhide Kid (whose real name is never given) palled around and fought outlaws. Is this character part of Marvel continuity? Apparently so! There is a profile for Jonathan Clay in Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe A-Z #9 that points out that Clay was not the first gunslinger to call himself the Rawhide Kid. Other than a passing mention in that handbook there is not a whole lot about the original Rawhide Kid other than these 16 issues as he has not been seen since.

Index Scope

As with all other titles of the era, all of the one-off western stories have been omitted. The only non-Rawhide Kid story included here is a Wyatt Earp backup story as Wyatt Earp — even though he is a real life person — has a strong connection to the Marvel Universe’s American Frontier. This index only covers the first sixteen issues before Jonathan Clay took over as the Rawhide Kid, those stories will be indexed in the Marvel Era section once I get around to them.
