Red Warrior #5

Code of the Comanche

A Comanche hunted named Two Claws is busy emptying his fur traps unaware that he is being stalked by a white man who shoots him dead and steals his furs in order to sell them. Sometime later, a Comanche hunting party finds Two Claws' body and returns it to camp. Grey Eagle is outraged that a white man has killed one of his own people and sends Red Warrior and a band of warriors out to capture the one responsible and bring him back to their village to face justice for his crimes.

As the warriors go out to hunt down Two Claws' killer, Red Warrior goes back to the scene of the crime where he examines the bullet casings left behind by the killer. He then begins following the killer's back trail and comes across an entirely different man setting up camp. Accusing the white man as the killer of Two Claws, Red Warrior takes him prisoner, and the man goes peacefully. When Red Warrior reunites with the other braves, they want to kill the white man, but Red Warrior stops them saying that the white man's fate must be decided by the tribal elders as it is their law.

When Red Warrior and the others bring the man back to their village, Grey Eagle asks Red Warrior for his opinion. Red Warrior tells his father how man's eyes were clear and that he believes he is innocent. Soon they are informed that some of the braves have tied their prisoner to a post and are about to torture him, Red Warrior breaks it up telling the other braves that their prisoner has the right to a fair trial.

Brought before the tribal elders, the man is deemed to be guilty only of trespassing on Comanche land and cannot rule on if he is responsible for the murder of Two Claws. They decide to let him go free and charge Red Warrior with the task of escorting the man back to the nearest settlement. Along the way the man expresses his new found respect for the Comanche people and is gladdened when Red Warrior gives his opinion of the man's innocence. However, the ride is a long and hot one and soon the white man notices that his horse is in dire need of water. With limited rations, the white man gladly gives up his share of the water so that his horse can drink, earning him the respect of the Red Warrior.

Eventually the two men part company, and Red Warrior is ambushed by the real killer who confesses to his crimes and orders Red Warrior to give up his horse so the killer can have a fresh horse to ride the rest of the way out of Comanche territory. Before the Comanche brave can do as ordered, his friend returns and gets the drop on the killer shooting him dead. With the killer dead, Red Warrior and his new found friend party company once more.

Nokomis tells the Red Warrior that he must use this fish hook to catch the great fish known as Chanook to prove his worthiness of Dawn Star's love.

Red Warrior takes the hook and goes to the nearby stream where he spots Chanook and using all his skill manages to hook the massive fish. Chanook does not give up without a fight, and the mighty fish pulls the Comanche warrior into the river. However, the Red Warrior manages to out fight the fish pulling it to shore.

Menace of the White Man!

A gang of white men led by a man named Fulsome are riding into Comanche territory with a wagon full of guns hoping to sell them to the Comanches. Stopping to set up camp for the night they are confronted by the local traders who tell them turn around with their cache of guns, but Fulsome and his men gun them down and bury their bodies. Shortly thereafter, Red Warrior and some braves come across the poorly buried bodies and decide to follow the tracks of the killers. To their surprise the trail leads them right into their own village where he finds Grey Eagle speaking with Fulsome.

Red Warrior cautions his father not to buy the guns from Fulsome and his men, telling them of the traders that they killed along the way. Grey Eagle takes his son's advice and asks Fulsome and his men to leave. Later after setting up camp, Fulsome devises a plan to trick the Comanches into buying their guns. The next day they travel to a nearby Paiute tribe and shoots some of their brave. Then travelling into the Paiute village he convinces the chief that the Comanches murdered some of their warriors with guns, and tricks them into buying the guns.

The gun dealers then rush over to the Comanche village and convinces Grey Eagle that the Paiutes are plotting to attack them and Grey Eagle buys their guns dismissing Red Warrior's concerns and unaware that the guns they are being sold are duds. When the two tribes clash, Grey Eagle soon realizes that their weapons do not work. Grey Eagle realizes that they have been tricked and calls the battle to the halt and explains everything to the Paiute chief. Making peace once again, the two tribes track down the white men and slay them for their crimes.
