Thor #138

The Flames of Battle!

Credits

Sif has been kidnapped by the Rock Trolls and brought to Earth. Arriving in New York City, Thor decides the best way to search is to search in his mortal guise of Don Blake. Tapping his hammer on the ground, Thor reverts to his human form but can still track Sif’s aura because they are both gods.

Little does he know that Rock Trolls already know about his double identity and are tracking his every move from their hideout in an abandoned tunnel below the city. This information was given to them by an entity called Orikal. As the Trolls talk among themselves about Orikal’s power, they remind themselves not to let Ulik — the strongest of the Rock Trolls — about Orikal. Ulik is overseeing the operation and he has plans for Sif after he defeats Thor in battle. The goddess herself is trapped in a stasis cylinder.

When Don Blake passes overhead, the Trolls pull him underground with a molecular disperser. While Blake is disorientated, one of the Rock Trolls grabs his walking stick. However, when the Rock Troll taps the cane on the ground nothing happens. Before Ulik arrives, the Troll demands that Don show him the secret of the cane. Blake tricks him to tap the cane again, but this time he reaches out and touches it as it hits the ground, triggering his transformation into Thor. Ulik is pleased to see his mortal enemy again as this time he intends to defeat him in combat.

Meanwhile, the forces of Gerriodur have launched a surprise attack on Asgard. They have the advantage of battle thanks to information given to them by Orikal. Leading the charge is Balder the Brave, who is ambushed by Rock Trolls and pulled under ground as a prisoner. As he has not heard back from his invasion force, Gerriodur decides to decides to learn how the battle fares by opening the secret chamber where he is holding Orikal prisoner. Gerriodur reminds Orikal that he is a prisoner in this universe and if he wants to be returned to his own reality, he must help the Rock Trolls conquer Asgard. Orikal understands and confirms that the Rock Trolls utilization of a secret tunnel to Asgard will be the key to victory.

Back on Earth, the battle between Thor and Ulik rages on with no winner in sight. Even when the other Rock Trolls try to join in the battle, Thor is still able to hold his own. Fighting off his attackers, Thor then spots the container holding Sif in suspended animation. He sets down his hammer to try and free her allowing one of the Rock Trolls to snatch it up in the Orb of Orakle. With Mjolnir in their possession, Ulik and the Rock Trolls use a mystical portal to return to Asgard. With her captors gone, Sif is freed and she witnesses as Thor fails to stop the Trolls from fleeing. When Sif asks what is wrong, Thor explains that without his hammer they are stranded on Earth and in sixty-seconds he will revert back to his mortal form.

In Asgard, the Trolls manage to storm the gates of the kingom of Asgard. As his people try to repel the invaders, Odin wonders where his son could be. While back on Earth, Sif tells Thor not to dispair as they must think of a way to return home. However, Thor wonders what will happen to both Earth and Asgard if they should fail.

The Quest for the Mystic Mountain!

Thor and the Warriors Three have agreed to help Hogun find Mystic Mountain and rescue his people from the evil Mogul. To try and learn the location of the mountain, they have sought out Wazir the Prophet. However, in order to reach Wazir they must fight his guardian the massive cyclops known as Ogur. Ogur attacks them immediately and can fend off most of their attacks. However, as the creature grabs Hogun in his grasp, Thor manages to knock the creature out by throwing Mjolnir at the monster’s head.

The commotion draws Wazir from his cave and he demands who has come to disturb him. The Wazir warns them that none who have ventured to Mystic Mountain have returned alive. Still, they insist on learning its location. The Wazir instructs them to grab hold of his walking stick in order to transfer the information they seek into their minds.

With the location of Mystic Mountain now revealed, Thor, Hogun and Fandral return to their horses. There they discover Volstagg — who they left behind to watch their steeds — has fallen asleep. When they wake him up to call him on them, he assures them that he is just pretending to sleep to fool unsuspecting enemies but quickly falls back to sleep.
