Thor #149

When Falls a Hero!

Credits

Stripped of his powers, Thor is in a life-or-death battle against the Wrecker.[1] Once a common thief, the Wrecker’s power has been magnified by a spell cast by Karnilla. Still, Thor refuses to surrender and fights with all his might. The Wrecker knocks Thor down and instantly grows bored with the battle.

In Asgard, Balder and Sif are watching the battle through Odin’s crystal globe. Seeing Thor go down, they race to get Odin to see that his son is losing the battle. Once they are gone, Loki steals the globe and flees in Karnilla’s domain.

Back on Earth, the Wrecker has decided to rob a bank. Police quickly arrive on the scene but their bullets have no effect on him. Trying to make his escape, the Wrecker is stopped by Thor who demands a rematch. This time around, Thor uses his reflexes to snatch the Wrecker’s crowbar in order to lure him into a nearby construction site.

By this time, Sif and Balder have convinced Odin to view what is transpiring by the crystal globe is missing. Suspecting Loki, they get permission to enter the realm of the Norns to recover it. As they ride off to confront Loki, Thor continues to battle the Wrecker at a construction site. The Wrecker recovers his crowbar and uses it to topple a building slated for demolition on the former thunder god. The Wrecker then finds Thor’s body in the rubble and assumes that he is dead.

Silence or Death!

After spending years in a sound-proof room, Black Bolt is allowed to finally leave on his nineteenth birthday. His father, Agon, announces this to him over a monitor. A moment later, the door to the chamber opens and Black Bolt is reintroduced to his cousins: Medusa, Karnak, and Gorgon. He is also interested to Medusa’s younger sister, Crystal.

That’s when Black Bolt’s brother, Maximus, enters the room. Having aspirations for the Inhuman throne, Maximus begins attacking his brother in the hopes of making Black Bolt cry and destroy himself and his cousins. He tries to keep Black Bolt at bay by taking Crystal hostage, but he is disarmed by Medusa and incapacitated by Gorgon and Karnak.

While everyone is proud of Black Bolt for not speaking during this attack, Crystal notices that he is sullen. Medusa explains that this is because Black Bolt is coming to terms with the fact that he will be unable to speak for the rest of his life.
