Thor #388

Alone Against the Celestials!

Credits

Trapped on the planet Pangoria, Thor has promised its leader — the space pirate Pegas — that he will defend it from the Celestials who have judged the planet as unworthy. While trying to attack Arishem the Judge, Thor is shocked when Exitar the Executioner — who is even more massive than Arishem — arrives to lay waste to the planet.

Observing this from his headquarters, Pegas decides the battle is already lost and prepares to launch his fleet to escape the planet. He offers Myla — his female assistant — to join them, but she refuses to abandon her home world. However, before Pegas and his fleet can escape the planet, Exitar erects an energy barrier trapping everyone inside.

However, Thor refuses to surrender without a fight and flies onto Exitar’s head and strikes it with Mjolnir as hard as he can. The blow sends reverberations across the planet, but Thor manages to punch a hole in the Celestial’s armor. Before it can seal back up, Thor leaps inside and finds himself in a strange field of energy, suggesting to him that the Celestials do not have physical forms. He is soon attacked by a swarm of flying creatures that live inside Exitar but drives them off by summoning a whirlwind. Leaping into a membrane of energy, Thor suddenly can see many distant alien worlds, confirming to him that the Celestials can exist in many place as once.

Outside, Pegas has decided to have his fleet of ships attack Exitar directly. However, his own ship waits on the sidelines as he does not wish to sacrifice himself.

Meanwhile, Thor continues searching inside Exitar’s body. He is attacked by strange pink anti-bodies that begin burning through his enchanted armor. Thor manages to save himself by summoning a bolt of lightning to fry the creatures, but his armor is ruined. Pressing onward, Thor soon finds himself in a chamber that appears to house the Celestial’s consciousness. There, he is attacked by a massive defender spawned to prevent him from causing anymore damage. Thor slays the creature and decides to try and breach the shell around Exitar’s mind. To do this, he wraps his Belt of Strength around Mjolnir and channels his godly energies into the weapon. The blow is powerful enough to shatter the dome, but it also destroys Mjolnir in the process.

However, before Thor can access the intelligence on the other side, more of the alien creatures are spawned to stop him. Even without his enchanted hammer, Thor refuses to surrender and charges into battle.
