Wild Western #26

The Outlaw and the Dude!

Kid Colt is drinking in a saloon when an outlaw named Slocum and his men get the drop on him and order him to finish his drink and face them outside or die right there. Kid Colt whirls around with guns blazing and manages to shoot his way out of the saloon and escape before Slocum and his men can even get a shot off. As Kid Colt rides away an easterner the locals jokingly call "The Dude" inquires about the man fleeing the scene. The locals laugh at the Dude for not knowing who Kid Colt is. Tired of being made fun of for being an easterner, the Dude vows to capture Kid Colt and claim the reward on his head so he can earn a reputation and rides off after him.

Later the Dude gets the drop on Kid Colt, but when the Kid notices of nervous the Dude is he decides to listen to hear what his story is. Kid Colt decides to oblige his captor and allows himself to be taken prisoner. When the Kid sees a sand storm approaching, the Dude refuses to listen until the storm is right upon them. With nowhere to go for cover, Kid Colt orders them to have their horses lay down in the sand and use them as a buffer to ride out the storm. When the storm passes, the Dude is thirsty and his eyes irritated from sand because he was watching Kid Colt the entire time.

Kid Colt then hunts up some water from a nearby cactus plant and does not run when the Dude uses the water to drink and clean out his eyes, even holding the Dude's gun for him while he is at it. Realizing that he could not have survived out in the desert without Kid Colt's help, the Dude decides to let him go and the two part as friends. Shortly after Kid Colt leaves, the Dude is confronted by Slocum and his men who demand to know where Kid Colt went. The Dude refuses to tell and stands his ground even though he is outnumbered and only has one gun. But Kid Colt returns and mows down the entire outlaw gang. The Dude thanks Kid Colt for saving his life and the Kid tells him the next time he tries to be so brave, he should remember to load his gun.

In another town he runs into Bull Fallon and his men who mock and plot to gun him down when he leaves the saloon. However, when Kid Colt goes outside, Denny Sr. appears and informs him that his son is okay. He also reveals that Denny was struck by a .44 bullet, not the type of bullets that Kid Colt uses.
