Aug 5 Araña - Heart of the Spider #11

At the headquarters of the Sisterhood of the Wasp, Amun searches their records to learn more about the death of Araña’s mother and learns that it is even worse than she thought. He is interrupted by one of the Sisterhood members who asks why he isn’t helping Vincent. When Amun explains that he is awaiting orders, she tells him that Vincent is in the town of Ticonda and to go and assist him. Amun doesn’t like this, but is concerned about both Vincent and Araña and curses himself for looking into Araña’s past as it has complicated matters. By this point, Vincent is leaving Ticonda base on a hypnotic command made by Felix Jade. However, he quickly snaps out of it and realizing what happened turns around and heads back to the safehouse before he can be punished by the Sisterhood of the Wasp for disobeying orders.

Back at the safehouse, Araña has just confronted Felix Jade, the man she thinks killed her mother. After hearing that Araña was sent by Sofia Corazon, he doesn’t understand who she is talking about until he remembers her father, Gil Corazon was Sofia’s husband and mocks him. This angers Araña and she lunges for the attack. As she races toward her foe, Anya thinks back to how Miguel promised not to interfere with her fight against Jade unless she was severely impaired. Unfortunately, Felix is able to deflect all of her blows due to his ability to read minds. Deciding to change things up, Araña then summons her spider carapace. While downstairs, Nina Smith and Ted Mankowski are still fending off the guards posted by the Sisterhood of the Wasp, but are quickly becoming outnumbered. Back upstairs, the battle is now more evenly matched Anya begins gaining the upper hand until the Wasps arrive upstairs. While Miguel tries to dispatch them with his spells, their arrival creates enough of a distraction for Felix to use his hypnotic powers on Araña and orders her to attack Miguel as well.

Unable to help herself, Araña knocks out Miguel with her spider-bolo and after Felix wills the Wasps to go to sleep he orders her to help him escape. Moments later, Nina and Ted arrive and after waking Miguel up are shocked to hear that Araña attacked him. Outside, Anya takes Felix to a car and is instructed to take him to the authorities so he can surrender to them. As Felix makes his getaway, Miguel and the others deduce what happened to Anya and rush outside to follow after their getaway car. Unfortunately, that’s when Vincent arrives, crashing his car into the one they are about to use. Emerging from the vehicle, Vincent seeks to pick up where he and Miguel left off when they last fought. He refuses to allow them to leave because his job, regardless of what happens, is to defend Felix Jade. As Vincent continues his attack on her allies, Anya continues to drive on with the man she believes killed her mother.
