Marvel Knights: Hulk #1
Transformé: Part 1 of 4
Paris, France, Now
A man is floating in the water face down in the Seine river. A woman on a bicycle rides past and spots the body, as she knew that was where it would end up.
Earlier that Day
The woman, named Dyane, was on the subway earlier that day when she spotted a man who did not look well and gave her a strange feeling. She is unaware that this is Bruce Banner, the man who transforms into the gamma-spawned monster known as the Hulk. She tries to get involved when she sees two men in dark suits and sunglasses chasing after him, but her friend Alain tells her not to get involved. Soon the three strange men are off at the next platform and the subway train continues on its way. Alain asks Dyane what she was planning on doing, and she says she doesn't know. When Alain says she is too much like her mother, Dyane slaps him across the face and storms off the train, telling him to never mention her mother again.
Now
Recognizing the man in the water as the same man from the subway train, Dyane reaches out to pull him out of the water. Banner raises his head out of the water and tells her to run, Seeing that he is bleeding from a gunshot wound, she refuses to abandon him and helps him out of the Seine. The next morning Bruce Banner wakes up in a strange bed to the disgruntled voice of Dyane's uncle, George Turner. George is upset that this stranger has been sleeping in his bed until noon and is fed up with giving him hospitality. Dyane tells her uncle to calm down, reminding him that she would only send the man on his way after he has healed sufficiently enough. As Banner begins waking up, George leaves to mind their gallery while Dyane deals with this stranger in their home.
Dyane tells Bruce that she treated him here instead of the hospital because he struck her as a man who likes to keep off the record. However, she says that she does not to get involved in his business and he should leave immediately to go and deal with it. However, Dyane is shocked to discover that not only does this man not know where he is, he also doesn't remember who he is. Dyane sarcastically thanks Banner for ruining her day. Deciding to name him Gavroche, Dyane takes Bruce to where she pulled him out of the Seine. Unfortunately, Banner has no recollection of how he ended up in there or what happened prior to Dyane seeing him on the subway. The only thing he does remember is waking up in her uncle's bed. He does, however, have a nagging feeling that there is something inside him, something dangerous, yearning to get out. He suspects that it could mean trouble for both of them.
Meanwhile, back at George Turner's gallery, the men in black that were pursuing Banner earlier have come in looking for him. Turner confirms the identity of his niece and that she had left moments earlier with the man they are looking for. Getting the information they are looking for, the two men gun down George and leave. They trace Banner to Le Caveau des Oubliettes, a local bar. They approach Banner while Dyane is in the bathroom. Not remembering who these men are, he doesn't understand when they call him by his real name. Having no time to be subtle, they try to strong arm Bruce and pull him out of the bar at gunpoint. One of the men pins Banner to the wall in an arm lock, but Bruce manages to grab the pistol out of the waistband of his attackers pants with his free hand. Shooting the man, Banner then flees the scene. The two men then radio their employer, Nikoleta Harrow, to ask their next move. With an attack from AIM approaching, she needs Banner at all costs and tells the men to inject themselves with some gamma serum. The men are transformed into massive gamma creatures that give Banner chase. They smash through everything and kill everyone who get in their way. Horrified by what is chasing him, Bruce flees into the subway and gets aboard a train. However, when the monsters follow him down there, he realizes what a bad decision this was and how he's doomed everyone onboard the train along with him.
They pull the subway train out of the tunnel and toss it across the city. Banner survives the crash, but the creatures are still after them. Observing this remotely is Nikoleta Harrow. She scoffs at the fact that AIM only sees her as one of their bastard children. However, she believes she will be able to take down the Hulk and use him to make AIM see her as their master. But, if she can't have the Hulk, she will destroy him and so she gives the order to her two operatives on the field. The two monsters catch up to Banner and striking him at the same time, both gamma-spawned murderers explode with Banner caught in the middle.
