Kid Colt Outlaw #50
Danger Town
Kid Colt heads into the town of Sleepy Valley, recalling how it was a peaceful place the last time he travelled through. He suddenly realizes how quickly its changed when a gang of outlaws attempt to bushwack him. However, despite this surprise attack, Kid Colt easily sends the outlaws packing. He is then approached by a young boy named Willie who tells the Kid that the town was taken over by Chess Barlow and his gang, who captured many of the locals including including Willie's father. Those who managed to escape the take over fled to the nearby forest.
Kid Colt follows Willie back to where the exiled community has taken cover and tells the people that he will help liberate their town from Chess Barlow and his boys. That night, the Kid sneaks into town and ambushes the lone outlaw guarding the jail. He gives Willie the keys and tells the boy to free the prisoners while he confronts Chess directly. Inside the nearby saloon Chess and his men are forcing the local banker to pay up their all the town's money in order to have the gang leave, but he does not have enough to satisfy Chess and his men. He then sends the banker out telling him to collect the ten thousand dollars that they are asking and threatens to burn down Sleepy Valley if he fails to come up with the money.
Kid Colt then attacks Chess and his men and keeps them busy until the freed prisoners and the other locals arrive armed to the teeth. Facing slim odds, Chess and his men surrender and are taken into custody. Kid Colt is thanked for his help and he leaves the next day confident that Sleepy Valley will remain peaceful from now on.
