Marvel Boy Primer
Series Overview
Atlas Comics attempted to revive the superhero genre with Bill Everett’s Marvel Boy, which combined superheroes with science fiction. However, after two issues the title was renamed Astonishing and Marvel Boy was paired with one-off science fiction and horror stories. However, Marvel Boy was eventually phased out of the title, his last appearance being in issue #6. Astonishing ran until issue #63 and was entirely devoted to science fiction and horror stories.
Marvel Boy Canon
Marvel Boy: The Uranian later revealed that the stories published in Marvel Boy/Astonishing were actually adaptations of the “real” adventures of Marvel Boy that were adapted by Atlas Comics. In that series Marvel Boy sold his story to Atlas who then took his adventures and adapted them into comic books. In order to make the stories more appealing to their readers, the creators of the Marvel Boy comic book changed details. As such, these Marvel Boy stories are these “adaptations”. They are based on “real” in universe events but some of the facts might be different.
Index Scope
This index combines both Marvel Boy and Astonishing issues in the same index for easier reference. However I stop at issue #6, the last issue that featured Marvel Boy. I have also skipped all the non-Marvel Boy stories. There are some vampire stories in this series that are considered canonical per the Marvel Vampires Handbook. I may get around to writing summaries of those stories but I’ve got other, more important work, to do before I even touch them.
