Secret Invasion continues from Secret Invasion: Runaways/Young Avengers #1…

Kinsey Walden’s life has been turned upside-down after discovering that her brother, Hank, had been replaced by a Skrull spy who then tried to kill her. With her best friend Ali and boyfriend Ethan, they tried to flee into the city only to get into an accident fleeing “Hank”. Waking up after the wreck, Kinsey pulls herself from the wreckage discover that the Skrulls have invaded the entire planet.[1] Looking for her friends and bleeding profusely from the accident, Kinsey suddenly collapses to the ground.

When she wakes up again, Ali and Ethan are standing around her as EMTs are putting her in a stretcher. However, before they can get her into an ambulance, it is picked up and thrown by a Super Skrull. That’s when more — each with three different superhuman powers based off of Earth’s heroes and villains — begin attacking the civilians. Luckily, Kinsey and her friends manage to get to cover before they are hurt. By this point, Ali is freaking out, and Kinsey assures her that she isn’t going to die and that they are going to make it out of this situation. That’s when a flaming taxi cab speeds by, as if to put that promise into question. They are almost killed by it as it passes by. Ethan manages to pull Kinsey aside and suddenly fees an insane urge to kiss her. Unfortunately, the couple don’t have time for romance, as the ground begins to split between them.

This is caused by a Super Skrull with all the powers of X-Factor utilizing the seismic powers of Rictor. When a cop shows up and tries to secure the area, he tells Kinsey and her friends to get to cover. When he opens fire on the Skrull, it unleashes Syrin’s sonic scream. Seeing this attack overwhelming the officers, the three teenagers make a run for it. As they flee deeper into the Manhattan, they are horrified to see the upper floors of the Baxter Building have been swallowed up by some kind of portal.[2] This causes Ali to completely lose it and she gives in to despair again. Ethan, meanwhile, is trying to make sense of why this is all happening and wonders if it is all connected to Kinsey since everything was normal for him until she showed up at the prom. Walden is insulted by this pointing out that the Skrull invasion is happening to everyone just not them. Tired of her friends feeling sorry for themselves, Kinsey decides to find a way she can help out.

That’s when Ali almost gets crushed by a giant-sized Super Skrull. This prompts Kinsey and Ethan to come to her aid. However, this puts them into the path of a Skrull who can whip around shrapnel with a gesture. As they try to get away, Ali calls attention to her friends as she had a chunk of rebar impaled through her stomach. As they try to comfort their friend and figure out their next move, they are confronted by what they think are two more Skrulls![3]
