Secret Invasion: Thor #3
Secret Invasion, Conclusion
Secret Invasion continues from Secret Invasion: X-Men #4…
The Earth has been invaded by the Skrulls,[1] and part of their plan is to destroy the city of Asgard, just outside of the town of Broxton, Oklahoma.[2] Part of this plan involved equipping on of their Super-Skrulls with Beta Ray Bill’s enchanted hammer, Stormbringer.[3] The weapon was split in two and given to a Skrull with the powers of Thundra, Titania, Volcana, and Battle Axe. Thor — needing to help deliver a baby in his mortal identity of Don Blake — left Mjolnir with Bill to help defend Asgard.[4]
Bill, unfortunately, was not strong enough to defeat the Skrull and was tossed just outside of Broxton. Following Bill, the Skrull is confronted by Don Blake, who delivered the baby and is ready to fight back against the invaders. All he needs to do is get his hands on Mjolnir before the Super-Skrull can attack him.
In Asgard, Volstagg sees that without their god-powered Super-Skrull, his fellow Asgardians are fending off the invaders easily. He decides to head into town to help there, tackling the Super-Skrull and keeping her distracted long enough for Don to grab Mjolnir and change back into Thor. As Thor fights the Skrull off of Volstagg, Bill tells the thunder god to make her drop his hammer. That’s when the rest of the Warriors Three — Fandral and Hogun — arrive to lend a hand. Fending off the Skrull’s flame attack, Thor orders Fandral to drive his blade into the Skrull’s chest. The blade doesn’t go in very far, but Thor drives the sword deeper with a good whack on the hilt with Mjolnir.
Mortally wounded, the Skrull screams in agony, but then laughs at the Asgardians. She then merges Stormbreaker back into a single weapon and tosses it high in the air. She intends to have it reach escape velocity and crash back down to the Earth, decimating the entire town on impact. Unable to stop is trajectory, Thor flies ahead of Stormbreaker and stands in its path. He gives a prayer to his father, Odin, before the enchanted hammer strikes him, causing a massive explosion.
The Super Skrull cheers at the apparent destruction of Thor, but is soon dog piled by the Warriors Three. Moments later, Thor — no worse for wear — arrives carrying both Mjolnir and Stormbreaker in his hands. He gives the Skrull one last chance to yeild, but when it refuses he strikes her with both weapons. He then tosses Stormbreaker to Beta Ray Bill, restoring his powers. The two knock the Skrull under Asgard and Thor uses the Odinpower to make the city fall on top of the alien invader, killing her under its crushing weight. Thor and Bill were under it as well, but save themselves from being crushed thanks to their combined strength. They then hoist up the city and after confirming the Skrull is dead, Thor sets it afloat off the ground once more.
With the immediate battle over, Thor ends the storm that has kept the people of Broxton under shelter. He and his people then head into the town to help with the clean-up. With that done, Thor intends to head elsewhere to help his allies fight back the Skrull invaders. Bill, however, was abducted from limbo by the Skrulls and he has unfinished business beyond the stars.[5] Thor understands and says he enjoyed fighting by his side as brothers once more. After wishing each other well, they both head off toward their respective journeys.[6]
