Sensational She-Hulk #47
Master Puppet!
In a police interview room, Anderson explains to Jen how a puddle appeared in his back garden, and small rockets, controlled by puppets calling themselves ‘The Thunderhawks’ appeared from it. But then the puddle and the rockets started to grow, and then the puppets started committing crimes and then saving people from them. As Jen sighs, thinking of offering an insanity verdict in his trial, the Police Captain tells her that there have been disturbances in Anderson’s street and that he may not be so mad. Jen goes off to investigate. Weezi and her daughter arrive on the scene, where they find the entire street is like some kind of disaster area, and the Thunderhawks are flying around above. As Jen arrives, they see some people trapped, but a Thunderhawks vehicle appears from nowhere and rescues them. Jen rips off the side of the vehicle, where a human-sized puppet tells her that he is from the World Rescue Network. The Blonde Phantom pushes Jen out of the way of a missile fired by another puppet, who Jen then throws a bin lid at to knock out. As another puppet thanks her, it is shot by the missile firing puppet. But the puppets keep fighting even as they fall apart. Jen shakes her head and walks off.
Meanwhile, the scene is watched by one who calls himself ‘The Critic’, from an offshoot of ‘The Watchers’ who describe what they see.
Jen goes to talk to Anderson, who’s sitting in the back of her car. He tells her the Master Puppet has kidnapped his family to stop him talking, but Jen persuades him to tell her the whole story. At his work, he found a small puppet, which came alive when he brought it home. They played with the kids first and then started making their own problems to solve. Jen suddenly remembers her previous adventures, with the Critic saving Earth by collecting the expanding universes. She realizes that this Universe must have got away, and is still growing!
Jen, Weezi and the Blonde Phantom borrow some of the Puppets’ machines to fly to their island. As the leader of the puppets spots them, he sends more puppets after them. Jen begins to fight, but Weezi pulls some scissors out of her bag and cuts their strings. Then, the Master Puppet appears, and towering above them, it attacks Jen. As she fights, Weezi finds the real puppet master and makes him stop. The puppet master explains that he wanted to be left alone in his world, and didn’t realize it was growing into everyone else’s. As the Critic collects the Universe, Anderson reunites with his family.
