Amazing Spider-Man: Who Am I? #1-12

Note: Amazing Spider-Man: Who Am I? was originally published in 12 parts as a Marvel Infinite Comic, a digital-only comic that was available at marvel.com. The series was condensed into a single issue when it came to a print edition. Due to the brevity of each individual issue, I have presented them all together as a single issue, just like the print edition.

When trying to stop a bank robbery, Spider-Man suffers a blow to the head. Suddenly he no longer remembers who he is. The crooks convince the web-slinger that he is their ally and, after taking a hostage, helps them escape. On a nearby rooftop, the robber’s boss asks Spider-Man to prove his loyalty by shoving the hostage off the building. Unaware of who he really is, Spider-Man shoves the woman over the side of the building without a moment’s hesitation.

However, once the bank robbers are not looking, Spider-Man fires down some webbing and saves the woman at the last minute. Later, at an abandoned warehouse, Spider-Man looks at himself in the mirror with his mask off and doesn’t recognize the face looking back at him, Finding a laptop computer, he decides to do a web-search on Spider-Man. He finds news stories that claim that Spider-Man is both a hero and a villain. He suddenly gets flashes of memory of before the bank heist, including a woman saying telling him that his memories need to be completely submerged in order for this plan to work. That’s when the leader of the bank robbers comes in and tells Spider-Man to get ready for their next job. This time, they drive an armored bus into a Stark Industries facility. Once they are inside, Spider-Man is confronted by Iron Man.

Spider-Man battles Iron Man while the thieves steal what they came for. Without any memory of being a hero, Spider-Man trounces Iron Man — who is holding back because Spider-Man is a friend. However, no matter how much Spider-Man trashes Iron Man’s armor, he can’t bring himself to commit murder. Once he is certain that he has incapacitated Iron Man he leaves, but not before Tony Stark tells Spider-Man that he is a hero and an Avengers. After Spider-Man, leaves, Tony is contacted by SHIELD director Maria Hill who tells Iron Man to trust the plan.

Reveling in his victor over Iron Man, Spider-Man is confronted by the mastermind behind these robberies, the Profit. When Spider-Man resists orders, the Profit uses his mental powers to punish the web-slinger for rebelling. This causes Spider-Man to have a hallucination of saving Gwen Stacy from the Scorpion. When the web-slinger saves a couple from getting crushed by a speeding police car, the act of heroics convinces the Profit that Spider-Man is starting to remember who he is and figures he might be in need of another mind wipe.

Blah blah bah.. I cannot believe they managed to stretch out a fucking amnesia story into 12 parts. Holy fuck. Anyway. Spider-Man slowly begins regaining his memory, especially when he has a run-in with Mary Jane Watson. He finally remembers her name when the thugs who he has been working with rob the same jewelry store she has gone into. Still, they take Mary Jane hostage and as they drive back to their base, Mary Jane calls Peter by his real name causing all of his memories to come back.

Although he has been reminded of who he is, Spider-Man tries to make himself forget all the way back to the hideout. There the Tinkerer is working on some invention. Suddenly a second Spider-Man comes and rescues Mary Jane. The two Spider-Men fight it out, but the intruder gets away with MJ. When the Profit arrives and asks Spider-Man who the other wall-crawler was, he tells his master that he doesn’t know.

Suspecting something is not right, the Profit probes Spider-Man’s mind to learn what’s going on and who hired him. When Peter refuses to talk, the Profit uses his powers to erase Spider-Man’s mind. When Spider-Man wakes up he is complaint again. There’s some dumb sub-plot with kids living in a boat. The Profit has Spider-Man help install the Tinkerer’s device on a cell tower. Spider-Man’s memories come back to normal and he kicks ass, destroys the device. After it was all over, Maria Hill says this was all-important because who the fuck cares and the other Spider-Man was actually Daredevil in disguise. The fucking end.
