Superior Foes of Spider-Man Primer
The Superior Foes of Spider-Man was a spin-off of the Superior Spider-Man run that was a spiritual successor to past limited series such as the Deadly Foes of Spider-Man and Lethal Foes of Spider-Man. It ran for 18 issues. With the exception of a few one-off issues the entire run was by Nick Spencer and Steve Lieber.
At the time, the Spider-Man line of books were all changed to reflect what was going on in Superior Spider-Man, which featured an on-going saga where Doctor Octopus — one of Spider-Man’s greatest foes — has taken over the life of Peter Parker. Most Spider-Books during this era were a lot more serious than you usual Spider-Man fare because Otto Octavius is an intensely serious guy. Superior Foes of Spider-Man is a stand-out in this run because the series was a lot more light hearted.
It follows Boomerang and his iteration of the Sinister Six. If it gives you an idea of how inept this group is you need only look at the fact that they call themselves the Sinister Six when their team only has five members. It’s your classic tail of a bunch of crooks trying to get that one last score. It has a lot of twists and turns and back stabbing and betrayals, but it is also about how these very different character develop a comradery. It also skewers and makes light of the life of a super-villain in the Marvel Universe.
It’s a fun read that take a look into the lives of b-list supervillains that, in other circumstances, wouldn’t be in this time of spotlight.
