Thor #188
The End of Infinity!
Thor has finally learned the secret of Infinity, an entity from the World Beyond that threatens to destroy the universe. Things are dire on all corners of existence. In the World Beyond, Odin himself has been enslaved by Infinity and is assisting the entity in its consumption of the universe.
In Asgard, the Odinsword is slowly being pulled out of its scabbard, threatening to bring about Ragnarok. While many in Asgard fear the worst, Balder rallies everyone together, reminding them that, as gods, they must die with valor. Elsewhere, Karnilla tries to use her magic to try and stop the destruction, but to no avail. At the same time, Loki tries to flee to save his own life and discovers that nowhere is safe from Infinity. That’s when an army of giants, trolls, and demons begin storming the gates of Asgard. The Warriors Three then rally the warriors of Asgard to respell these invaders.
While the effects of Infinity’s attack has caused freak weather conditions and natural disasters all over the Earth. While some try to flee the cities, others begin looting. Across the world armies mobilize as nations accuse their enemies for what happened. While the religious gather to repent for their sins in the hopes of finding salvation when the world comes to an end.
Back in Asgard, Thor finally reveals the truth about Infinity to Sif and Balder. He reminds them of when Odin’s body was placed in the Dimension of Death while he was in the Odinsleep.[1] While trapped there, Odin’s body was visited by Hela the goddess of death. She sought to claim Odin’s soul but realized that he couldn’t kill him even though she was in his realm. When Balder eventually came to rescue Odin, Hela discovered that she could at least take part of Odin’s soul. As Balder fought the ravages of age, Hela pulled part of Odin’s soul away. She then allowed Balder to take Odin’s body away. The part of his soul that remained in Hela’s domain became the entity that they now know as Infinity and it was unleashed upon the world by Hela.
Although things look dire, Thor refuses to give up without a fight. Summoning a powerful whirlwind, he blows away all the invaders in Asgard. That’s when Odin and Infinity appear and slowly begin merging together. To try and stop this from happening, Loki and Karnilla agree to merge their magics together. Using Loki’s helmet to channel their combined power, they fire a mystical bolt that briefly separates Odin from Infinity. However, it will take the combined might of Thor and his allies to stop Infinity once and for all. Karnilla then casts a spell that allows Thor to combine his strength with that of Balder, Sif, Heimdall, and the Warriors Three. This creates a massive vortex that then strikes both Odin and Infinity. The force of the blow causes a massive explosion that separates the two and causes Infinity to fade into nothingness, ending his threat.
Freed from Infinity’s control, Odin returns to Asgard and tells them all that the danger has passed. Taking his Power Sceptre, Odin then uses it to restore all the damage caused by Infinity and to erase all memory of the distaster from the minds of mortals. With the universe restored, Odin then pushes the Odinsword back into its scabbard, ending the threat of Ragnarok once again. Although Infinity is defeated, Odin warns his followers that Hela will seek revenge for this defeat by trying to claim the life of Thor.
