Two-Gun Western Primer
Series Overview
Two-Gun Western was a western anthology series that in the 1950s, it started with issue #5 as it continued the numbering from Casey Crime Photographer. The series introduced the Apache Kid who was the title character of the series. The first three issues had a Apache Kid cover story followed by one-off western tales. Issue #8 brought in other recurring Marvel western heroes starting with Kid Colt and the Texas Kid. In issue #14 the Texas Kid was replaced with the Black Rider until the end of the series run.
Canon?
The validity of the Apache Kid stories presented in this series is tossed into question following the release of both the Apache Sky and Blaze of Glory limited series. The first provides a very different origin for the Apache Kid while the latter provided an explanation. The “in universe” explanation is that the heroes of the “Old West” had dime novels written about them. These novels often changed details to better engage audiences and were often filled with errors. As such the Timely/Atlas era western stories are considered these “dime novel” adaptations. This doesn’t negate them as part of continuity as they are generally considered as being based on “true” stories, but makes the details questionable.
