Avenging Spider-Man #14
Spider-Man finds himself in the Savage Land fighting for his life against a pack of velociraptors. He tries to make the best of the situation by cracking jokes. However, these dinosaurs are far deadlier than they appear when one of them suddenly starts breathing fire. As he tries to web-swing away, Spider-Man is ambushed by a pterodactyl that has a cybernetic helmet that allows it to speak. It tells Spider-Man that he is an intruder in their master’s domain and that his genetic material will be used in his future experiments.
Spider-Man is soon surrounded on all sides by various breeds of carnivorous dinosaurs. He is trying to figure his next move when suddenly, Moon Boy and Devil Dinosaur come crashing in. However, since their recent betrayal in the outside world, Moon Boy attacks Spider-Man, thinking the wall-crawler has come to plunder the Savage Land.[1] Spider-Man doesn’t understand why he is being attacked since when they last met, Moon Boy and Devil Dinosaur considered him a friend.[2] When Moon Boy is distracted by Devil Dinosaur’s destruction of the altered dinosaurs, an acid spitting dilophosaurus prepares to attack, but Spider-Man saves his life. This convinces Moon Boy that Spider-Man actually came to help them and he begs for forgiveness.
Since there is a language barrier between himself and Moon Boy, Spider-Man takes a stick and tries his best to draw in the sand an explanation of how he ended up in the Savage Land that the primitive can understand. He tells how he came to the Savage Land as Peter Parker with his colleagues at Horizon Labs. The whole time his spider-sense was warning him of danger.[3] As his co-workers treated this like a camping trip he went looking for the source of the danger. When he returned to camp, Peter was surprised to see Max Modell and the others being kidnapped by a pack of dinosaurs, leading to the battle that Moon Boy and Devil Dinosaur happened upon.
Moon Boy can’t make sense of the drawings but leads Spider-Man to where the mutated dinosaurs are coming from. They soon find themselves at the mouth of a cave that has been carved to resemble a demonic face. Before Spider-Man can come up with a way to sneak inside, Moon Boy and Devil Dinosaur loudly charge at the gathering dinosaurs.
