Oct 27 Avenging Spider-Man #15

While on a scientific expedition to the Savage Land, Max Modell and the best minds at Horizon Labs have been taken prisoner by an army of mutated dinosaurs. As Bella Fishbach begins to panic, Max tells his staff to keep calm. Suddenly, the cave where they are being held prisoner begins to shake as Moon Boy and Devil Dinosaur attack. Spider-Man, who was hopping to use the element of surprise is annoyed at the pair charging in without a plan.

Despite the language barrier between Spider-Man and Moon Boy, the primitive agrees to follow Spider-Man into the cave to stop whoever is responsible for these abominations, confident that Devil can handle himself. Inside, Moon Boy finds the cell where the Horizon Labs staff are being held prisoner. This worries Moon Boy who believes that Spider-Man only came to save his friends. However, Spider-Man wants to keep a low profile because if he is seen in costume his co-workers might deduce that Peter Parker and Spider-Man are the same person. He tries to explain this to Moon Boy. Although the ape-man has no idea what Spider-Man is saying, he is convinced that the gods have sent him to help his cause as well.

Moon Boy then leads Spider-Man into a lab where a trio of dinosaur eggs are being kept in stasis. Spider-Man quickly realizes that they belong to Devil Dinosaur, a surprise to him because he thought Devil was male. That’s when the resident mad scientist, the mutate known as Brainchild, arrives with some of his augmented dinosaurs.[1] While Spider-Man deals with Brainchild and his pets, Moon Boy recovers the stolen eggs. Annoyed by this intrusion, Brainchild then summons his latest creation a mutated tyrannosaurus rex he calls Demon Dinosaur.

The massive reptile forces Spider-Man and Moon Boy outside where Devil Dinosaur locks horns with its opposite. In the ensuing battle, Moon Boy ambushes Brainchild and begins beating him into submission. Moon Boy’s rage is so strong that Spider-Man has to pull the primitive man off the mutate before he kills Brainchild. By this time, Devil Dinosaur has driven off the Demon, who flees into the jungle. With the battle over, Spider-Man sends off Moon Boy while he returns to the Horizon Labs camp in order to change back into Peter Parker. When Max Modell and the others return to the camp they are relieved to see that Peter is safe. They soon leave the Savage Land and as they go, Peter hopes that Moon Boy will keep his home safe.

At that moment, Moon Boy and Devil Dinosaur rejoice as the eggs hatch. Moon Boy is delighted and is glad that Spider-Man reminded him what it is to be a hero.
